Tens of thousands of people have protested across the Canary Islands, calling for a freeze on tourism numbers, claiming the model makes life unaffordable and harms the environment.
Under the banner ‘Canarias tiene un límite’, backed by environmental groups, the protesters called for a tourism model rethink.
Protests were sparked by the construction of unnecessary luxury developments in Tenerife, however local groups say residents are facing a housing crisis and poverty.
Last year 13.9 million tourists holidayed on the archipelago.
