EU Reaffirms Support for Spain During Ceuta Migration Crisis

The European Union has reaffirmed its support for Spain as it continues to respond to the migration crisis in Ceuta, stressing that protecting the bloc’s external borders is a shared European responsibility.

A European Commission spokesperson said the EU has stood alongside Spain since the crisis began and remains ready to provide further operational assistance, including support from Frontex, the European Border and Coast Guard Agency.

Brussels also called for solidarity among member states, describing the protection of the EU’s external borders as a collective obligation rather than the responsibility of a single country.

The statement follows the unprecedented mass arrivals into Ceuta earlier this week, which prompted Spain to reinforce security with additional Army, Guardia Civil and Policía Nacional personnel.

The European Commission said it remains in close contact with the Spanish authorities and welcomed the continued cooperation between Spain and Morocco to manage the situation and prevent further irregular crossings.

EU officials said they will continue monitoring developments and coordinating with Spain to ensure the Union’s external border remains secure while maintaining an effective humanitarian response to those affected by the crisis.
