Man arrested in connection to letter bombings

Policia Nacional have arrested a 74-year-old man in connection to a string of letterbombs sent to high-profile targets before Christmas.

Officers said they detained the man in a raid carried out in Miranda de Ebro in Castilla y León. He is due to appear in court in the coming days.

In total six bombs were sent to addresses across Spain including PM Pedro Sánchez’s official residence and the US and Ukrainian embassies.

Investigators have said that while they believe he acted alone, they have not ruled out the possibility others were involved.

Last weekend an investigation published in the New York Times linked the bombs to an extreme right-wing Russian body.
