Clara Ponsatí arrested in Barcelona

Catalan separatist politician Clara Ponsatí has been arrested by police after her return to Spain.

Ms. Ponsatí was detained a few hours after her return to Spain following her self-imposed exile in Scotland and Belgium.

She was arrested by a plain clothed Mossos d’Esquadra officer who identified her whilst walking down Avinguda de la Catedral.

Police confirmed she was detained on a warrant for her arrest on suspicion of civil disobedience – a crime which does not carry a custodial sentence.

Former Catalan regional president Carles Puigdemont called on European Parliamentary president to interviene due to Ms. Ponsatí immunity as an MEP.
