The majority of those evacuated are from the city of Badajoz, where torrential rains yesterday left rivers bursting their banks, and a water reservoir having to release surplus water as it came close to over spilling.

Yesterday afternoon the Junta de Extremadura issued a level 1 emergency alert, after rainfall left roads blocked and some towns at risk of flooding.
Ten people were resuced after being stranded in their homes as storm Efraín passed through the region.
The town of Zarza de Granadilla in neighbouring Cáceres vas virtually cut off after rain water flooded all but one of the roads into the town.
