10 dead, as thousands cross Ceuta border

Written by on 31 July 2026

Thousands of people have crossed into Ceuta from Morocco over the past twenty-four hours, prompting the government to reinforce security by deploying additional Army personnel and Guardia Civil officers to the Spanish enclave.

Authorities say the operation is intended to restore order and strengthen border security following one of the largest migration surges in Ceuta in recent years.

Meanwhile, the number of bodies recovered from the sea has risen to ten, underlining the dangers faced by those attempting the crossing.

The European Commission has offered Spain additional support through Frontex, while urging Morocco to take immediate action to prevent further departures.

Spanish and Moroccan authorities remain in contact as efforts continue to manage the humanitarian and security situation.
