Job loss fears grow for future of Nissan plant in Barcelona

Concerns are growing for a major part of the Spanish automotive sector after news emerged that Nissan was planning to close its factory in Barcelona.

Reports in Japanese media suggest that the car maker was to close it’s plant, a decision the Catalan Generalitat say has not been confirmed in any official communication.
Regional ministers have asked for urgent meetings with representatives from Nissan as well as the national government. The site currently employs over 3000 people directly.
