Tempers in Madrid suburb boil over in protest over lockdown
Written by sjames on 15 May 2020
The Madrid neighbourhood of Salamanca has seen five days of demonstrations against the lockdown.
People took to the streets shortly before 9pm to voice their objections to Madrid remaining in phase 0, whilst parts of the rest of the country moved into the first stages of de-escalation.
Calls for the resignation of the Government, and refusal to follow social distancing have been observed during the disturbances. Police have brought officers in to try to control the situation.
Far right party Vox has said it supports protests over the Government’s handling of the pandemic, but said people should maintain social distancing.
