Tourism sector warns of 80% lost of annual trade

The tourism sector is expecting at least 80% of its annual trade will be lost this year due to the coronavirus.
The Association for Tourism Excellence, Exceltur, has warned that the damage to the economy could be worth up to €54 billion. It’s executive vice president, José Luis Zoreda, has issued a statement asking for Government support for the industry.

He also calls for clear communication on how the state of emergency will be de-escalated, as well as financial assistance.
Domestic tourism is forecast to begin again by mid-June, and international tourism not expected to pick up until late July.
