🔴 LIVE – Nationwide lockdown begins as Spain tackles coronavirus

Restrictions on movement as part of the national state of emergency has come into immediate effect.
The decree bringing the temporary restrictions was brought into law last night after a speech by prime minister pedro sanchez.


People will only be allowed to leave their homes to buy food and medicine, commute to work, or go to provide care.
Businesses have been instructed to facilitate home working as much as possible, to prevent the number of people in workplaces.
With immediate effect Spain is also closing all schools, universities, restaurants and bars nationwide along with non-essential stores.

The interior ministry is also to take control of all police forces, including those at local and regional level.
Travel firms Jet2 and TUI have also cancelled holidays booked to the country this weekend.
Jet2 aircraft en-route to Spain turned back to the UK whilst in flight. Other operators have yet to announce their plans, however restrictions on flights, road and rail travel are expected from Monday.
With 191 deaths and 6,046 infections, Spain is the worst-hit country in Europe after Italy, which declared a nationwide lockdown on Monday
