Tenerife forest fire shows signs of slowing

The forest fire in Tenerife that has been burning for six days, consuming over thirteen thousand three hundred and eighty-three hectares of land appears to be slowing down.

In their latest update last night, officials on the island confirmed that the blaze remained with a perimeter of ninety kilometers, but it’s spread is starting to slow down.

No deaths have been reported, but some farm buildings have been destroyed. The fire was intentionally set, according to a Guardia Civil investigation.

The fire has also affected the habitat of thirty-nine bird species and protected ecological areas.

The President of the Government has announced plans to declare the affected areas as a ‘catastrophic zone’ and provide assistance to affected residents.
