Recall notice issued for contaminated mozzarella

The Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition has issued an urgent recall notice for Bocconcini de Albe mozzerella, after Staphylococcus bacteria was detected in samples.

Cheese with an expiration date of 29th October, with a batch number of 2910 should not be consumed, and should be returned to the point of purchase for a full refund.

In their alert they said whilst no cases of poisoning have been reported in Spain, anyone who has eaten the product and is feeling unwell should contact their doctor or visit a medical centre.

Staphylococcus poisoning can result in nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and abdominal pain.

It’s belived the cheese was sold in retailers in Andalusia, Asturias, the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands, Catalonia, Cantabria, Castilla y León, Galicia and the Valencian region.
