Worker Arrested for Sexual Assaults at Madrid Nursing Home
Written by on 5 March 2024
A nursing home employee in San Sebastián de los Reyes, a town near Madrid, has been arrested following allegations of sexual assault against two elderly residents, aged 90 and 100. The arrest came after one of the victims reported the incident to a staff member, who then alerted the home’s management. The management promptly reported the allegations to the National Police, leading to the opening of an investigation and the subsequent arrest of the 43-year-old night-shift worker identified as José Raúl R. E.
The police investigation revealed that the accused took advantage of the victims’ vulnerability and the fact that they were alone in their rooms to carry out the assaults. Initially, the report by the older victim was met with skepticism, and the worker was simply moved to a different floor. However, after a second victim came forward with similar allegations, the caretaker was fired and police, along with the victims’ families, were notified. José Raúl now faces two charges of sexual assault and has been released pending trial with a restraining order barring him from approaching the victims or the nursing home.
The incident has prompted the Madrid Community’s Department of Family, Youth, and Social Affairs to pass the case to the Public Prosecutor’s Office and initiate a specific inspection of the Moscatelares nursing and day care center. With the police investigation still open, authorities are delving into the accused’s work history, given his tenure in the care sector since 2015, to uncover any further misconduct.
