🔴 LIVE – King to address nation as controls continue nationwide

Tonight at 9pm mainland time, the King will address the nation. The address will come after meeting with prime minister Pedro Sanchez and the four other ministers who form the committee for the management of the pandemic.
Border controls are now in place on all land borders with Spain. At midnight controls were put in place to restrict the movement of people over the border into the country from France, Portugal and Andorra.
The enclaves of Mellila and Cueta have also put in place restrictions on movement between themselves and the mainland.
The Canarian Government has also said it intends to reduce the number of people arriving in the archipelago from the mainland as soon as is possible. The Balearic Islands has closed it’s ports and airports to domestic travel.
The restrictions only apply to people – goods are still able to cross the border. People who need to leave or enter the country by road or rail are being asked to provide documentation as proof of a reason to travel.
This afternoon the UK’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office updated it’s travel advice, advising people against all but essential travel to the whole country.

Airlines are now undertaking rescue flights, and those wishing to return to the UK are being advised to contact their airline.
easyJet has cancelled all regular flights to the country and are now operating rescue flights – details have been posted on their website. Ryanair has also significantly reduced the number of flights and is contacting passengers.
Yesterday the number of cases rose to 11,800, with 1028 new confirmed cases. 533 people are know known to have died.
