Canary Islands to have yellow weather warnings for up to 35ºC temperatures

The regional government in the Canary Islands has ordered the temporary closures of schools due to unusually high temperatures, reaching up to thirty-five degrees Celsius.

Meteorological agency Aemet issued a series of yellow weather warnings for the coming days due to the heatwave.

Government officials said that the classroom closures came after a number of children fainted due to the heat, as well as the risk of heat strokes.

Temperatures exceeded 38.5c in Tenerife yesterday, with the hot weather due to last for most of the week.

The hot weather has further fuelled the wildfire in the northeast of the island, which has over one hundred fire fighters working to tackle the blaze which has been burning since the middle of August.
