Begoña Gómez calls for acquittal, denounces “bad faith” behind accusations

Written by on 18 May 2026

Begoña Gómez, the wife of Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, has formally requested acquittal should her case proceed to trial.

In her submission, she argues there is an “absolute absence of evidence” to support the allegations and accuses the complainants of acting in “bad faith.”

Her defence maintains that her collaboration with the Complutense University began in 2012, when Sánchez held no public office, and that none of the documentation gathered substantiates the alleged crimes, which include influence peddling, business corruption and misuse of public funds.

She denies any wrongdoing.
