Basque Nationalist Party says Sánchez governing beyond 2026 would be “irresponsible”

The Basque Nationalist Party (PNV) has criticised Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez’s intention to remain in office beyond 2026, calling the idea “irresponsible” given what it describes as a “judicialised” political climate and the government’s lack of a stable majority.
PNV spokesperson Aitor Esteban said the country needs “predictability and institutional stability,” arguing that prolonging the current situation would not help.
The comments come amid heightened political tension and ongoing legal cases involving figures linked to the government.
Sánchez has not publicly confirmed whether he intends to seek another term.
