Fortnight of “economic hibernation” comes to an end

517 people died to the coronavirus in the 24 hours leading to yesterday’s daily announcement, showing the return of the downward trend.
The death toll stood last night at 17,489, with 169,496 cases nationwide. 64,727 people are now confirmed to have recovered from the virus according to official figures.
The news came as Spain enters its second month of lockdown, some businesses that cannot operate remotely, including construction and manufacturing, were allowed to reopen yesterday, after emergency legislation came to an end.
The fortnight of “economic hibernation”, as Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez described it, is slowly being lifted.
However some regional authorities are said to have concerns that there could be a resurgence of the pandemic.
