Norwegian Airlines announces job cuts and base closures across Spain

Norwegian airlines has announced that it is to slash it’s Spanish workforce by 85% as part of the companies restructuring plan.
In total 1,191 employees are to lose their jobs as the troubled carrier brings to an end long-haul operations from Barcelona, and is to close it’s hubs in Barcelona, Gran Canaria and Tenerife Sur.
In a statement issued by the airline and the USO union, they have confirmed however that the bases in Alicante and Malaga will remain operational, however there will only be one aircraft based at each airport.
The airlines fleet has also seen significant reductions, with only 50 aircraft remaining from an original 156, as well as the cessation of their long haul operations.
