Thousands of people took to the streets across Spain last night in support of the elimination of violence against women as part of a worldwide day of protest.
The national focus of the day was on Madrid, where thousands walked towards Puerta del Sol to hears speeches from political and social leaders.
Marches took place on the same day that a 26-year-old woman was killed in a suspected case of gender violence in Tenerife, a 29-year-old man – believed to be her partner – has been arrested on suspicion of her murder.
Her death brings the number of people killed due to gender violence this year to 52.
