Written by on August 18, 2019
4000 people have been evacuated from their homes as a second major wildfire has struck the Canarian island of Gran Canaria.
The blaze, which has remained uncontrolled since it was reported on Saturday has reached the Tamadaba Natural Park.
A number of villages and hamlets around the site of the fire have also been evacuated as a precaution, according to local authorities.
Efforts to bring the fire under control have been hampered due to high temperatures and strong winds.
The local Government has activated emergency plans with the Ministry of the Interior and the Spanish Red Cross to provide shelter for those who have been evacuated.
The cause of the fire remains unknown, however investigations are ongoing.
