The ‘Onda Atlántica’ footbridge in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has been formally opened at the weekend by mayor, Augusto Hidalgo, and the president of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres.

The 283 metre long bridge – which connects the port to the city crossing the GC-1 motorway – was completed earlier this year and is designed exclusively for both pedestrians and cyclists.

The bridge – which is expected to become a new landmark for the city – cost 3.9 million euros to build, with 1,200 tonnes of steel used.
