Migrant camp in Gran Canaria dismantled by authorities

Authorities in Gran Canaria have dismantled a temporary immigrant holding camp, after it was found to be inadequate and unfit for the holding of those who made the crossing.
The Government confirmed that the 830 people who had been sleeping in tents on the dockside in Arguineguin had been moved to other facilities on the island. The last to leave were 27 who were moved into isolation after testing positive for the coronavirus.
Many of those who arrived at the holding centre were left to sleep with little shelter, and with very few sanitary provisions. The Government is in the process of restarting deportations of those who fail to claim asylum, following meetings recently with authorities in Morocco.
