US Military Veterans to lodge class action relating to Spain’s worst nuclear disaster

The United States Court of Appeals for Veterans Affairs has approved a class action for retired US military personnel who were involved in the clean up operation following the 1966 Palomares B-52 crash.
The plane crash involved four nuclear bombs, which killed seven, resulted in contamination of 260 hectares around the crash site.
1,600 US military troops were involved in the clean up operation, which saw over 5,000 drums of contaminated soil be sent to the US for processing. Many of those who worked in the clean up have suffered with related illnesses over 50 years since the accident.
