Unions and Nissan come to arrangement over Barcelona factory closures
Written by on August 5, 2020
Unions and management at the three Nissan factories in Barcelona are understood to have come to an agreement over the sites planned closures.
Negotiations over the proposals from the Japanese car giant had lasted over 25 hours, being mediated by the Catalan regional government.
The factories are now due to close at the end of next year, with the loss of 2,525 workers. It’s understood severance packages have been improved, and planned redundancies have been postponed until the end of 2021.
The news is expected to bring to an end 95 days of industrial action, which stared after staff were informed of the three sites closures in May.
