A European Arrest Warrant, issued for former Minister of Education of Catalonia Clara Ponsati on a charge of sedition, is still active according to British authorities.
Police and legal teams in the UK initially said that the warrant was disproportionate in accordance with British legislation. However after clarification, it was stated that the request lacked essential information such as the nature of the crime, and when it took place.
Police forces in Scotland, where Mrs Ponsati is currently residing, apologised for the “lack of communication” in the handling of the case.
Meanwhile thousands of police officers have been moved to the Catalan region ahead of Sunday’s vote, over concerns there could be further disruption. Officers will be on hand to assist in security at polling stations.
