🔴 LIVE – Second week of state of emergency draws to a close as death toll continues to rise

The second week of the national state of emergency is drawing to a close, with 57,786 reported cases in the country, 4,365 dead, and 7,015 patients discharged from hospital.

Last night also saw hotels closing apart from around 350 nationwide which are being used to house health workers, maintenance personnel, those who have dependents nearby, and those tourists who remain stranded in the country.

Flights between Spain and the UK and Ireland are continuing at the moment, however advice from the UK Foreign and Commonwealth office and the Irish foreign office remains that tourists should try to return home as soon as possible.

Overnight the Ministry of Health has confirmed that the quarantine of a number of towns in the Catalan region will continue for another 15 days. Igualada, Vilanova del Camí, Santa Margarida de Montbui and Òdena, all parts of Barcelona, have been on full lockdown since the 12th March.

Nearly a quarter of a million people have temporarily lost their jobs, according to research by a national broadcaster. 240,000 ERTE’s have been issued, however 1.2 million people have either had their hours cut or have faced disruption due to the crisis.
