Increase in tremors at Mount Teide no cause for alarm according to seismologists

Written by on June 11, 2019

A number of small quakes have been reported on Mount Teide in Tenerife, according to the Volcanological Institute of the Canary Islands and the National Geographic Institute.

In a report, the agencies say that the cause is down to a build up of gasses below the Earth’s surface, with no magma activity being recorded – meaning the risk of eruption is low.

Whilst the frequency of quakes detected has risen, this is within expected volumes according to seismologists.
