Highest number of infections recorded since end of lockdown

Spain has recorded the highest daily number of new coronavirus cases since the lockdown was lifted.
Yesterday 1,229 new coronavirus infections on Thursday, the second consecutive day the figure was over a thousand, and the largest increase since the lockdown was lifted on 21 June, health ministry data showed.
In total 285,430 are now known to have contracted the virus across Spain.
The news came as Health Minister Salvador Illa said the new normal will remain in place for the foreseeable future until at least a new vaccine has been developed.
In a statement given to the Congressional Health Committee, the health minister went on to say that 60% of cases are currently asymptomatic and are being detected by testing.
More than 42,000 PCR tests are being carried out daily.
