Death toll rises to thirteen, as search continues for missing people after Storm Gloria

Written by on 22 January 2020

The death toll from this week’s Storm Gloria has risen to at least thirteen, after the remains of a number of people who were reported missing were found.
The search is ongoing for a number of people, including a 25-year-old British man who was last spotted on a beach in Ibiza. Coastguards discovered an item of clothing belonging to the man whilst searching for him yesterday.

Meanwhile a number of towns in the north east were without drinking water yesterday due to damage to the water supply.
As the thaw begins, flood warnings have been issued, with concerns rivers may burst their banks due to the increase in water levels expected in the coming days.
The news comes a day after a storm surge swept 3 km inland, devastating rice paddies in the Ebro river delta south of Barcelona.
A carpet of sea foam engulfed Tossa de Mar, and the Port of Barcelona was closed due to 7M high waves made it too dangerous for boats to venture out to sea.
