Death toll rises to five as Storm Filomena continues to cause chaos

Two more people are now known to have died due to Storm Filomena, bringing the death toll to five.

Mossos d’Esquadra in Barcelona announced the deaths of the two men aged 32 and 37, who are understood to be homeless and died after developing hypothermia.

Meanwhile Aemet has issued further red, amber and yellow weather alerts for today as dangerously cold temperatures are expected across the country.

Temperatures in parts of mainland Spain could fall as low as -15 ºC, as the cold spell continues for another few days hampering the clean up operation.

Officials in Madrid have confirmed that a foot and a half of snow fell over the weekend, making it the heaviest snowfall in half a century.
