Catalan separatists to be offered pardons

Minister of Justice, Juan Carlos Campo, has said that his department will begin clemency hearings for Catalan separatist politicians who were jailed for their involvement in the disputed independence referendum in October 2018.
The announcement was met with anger by the PP, Ciudadanos and Vox parties, who have said they will launch a legal block to the planned pardons for the nine Catalan separatist politicians.
PP leader Pablo Casado said that the pardons were given in exchange for passing next years budgets by the coalition government.
The Ministry of Justice has said it could take up to six months to issue pardons for those who were jailed.
