Second series of jabs begin as infections continue to soar

The second series of vaccination jabs have begun for those who are at the most risk of the coronavirus, the Government announced yesterday.
Yesterday morning, eight of Spain’s 17 regions had got underway with the second round of jabs, the health ministry said.
However the news came on the same day that weekend records for new cases were smashed, after 84,287 new cases of the coronavirus were reported nationwide.
The rise in cases has also left further concerns over the medical system’s ability to cope. 23,184 people are currently being treated for COVID-19 in Spanish hospitals – up more than 3,500 from Friday.
Ten regions have reported ICU capacity dropping, with over a quarter of all patients being treated for covid-19.
Meanwhile the Government is also studying requests from three regions to bring curfew’s forwards until 8pm, after Murcia formally announced a new curfew, and a legal decision is yet to be made in Castilla y León after the central government challenged the regional authority in court.
