Fears over increases in Covid-19 in nursing homes across Spain

Concerns that the coronavirus could be posing an imminent threat to nursing homes have risen in the last few days after a number of outbreaks have been reported in various retirement homes nationwide.
The most affected cluster is currently in Teruel, where 70 confirmed cases have been detected in one resident. 23 of those are understood to be staff, and seven of those who tested positive have since died from covid-19.
Another cluster at a nursing home in Madrid has seen 52 people test positive for the virus, with two related deaths.
Regional authorities have started to limit access to certain homes in an effort to stem the spread of the virus amongst vulnerable elderly residents and staff.
