Coronavirus: Infection rates drop as war of words breaks out between medical associations and chief epidemiologist
Written by on November 16, 2020
The latest data from the ministry of health shows that the infection rate across Spain for the coronavirus has dropped over the weekend, however deaths and hospitalisations remain high.
Nearly 38,300 people tested positive for the virus at the weekend, maintaining a gradual decline in new infections.
Last weekend, the Health Ministry confirmed more than 52,000 new cases.
However, another 484 people died, bringing Spain’s official virus death toll to 41,253.
Meanwhile a bitter exchange of words has taken place between Spain’s Medical College Association, calling for the chief epidemiologist Fernando Simon to resign, after comments he made about infection rates of health professionals.
Yesterday he said he was not going to step down voluntarily.
