Coronavirus cases continue to rise significantly after festive break

The number of daily coronavirus cases has increased to significant levels, nearing the same as during the peak of the first wave of the pandemic.
Yesterday the Ministry of Health reported a further 23,700 cases – an increase of 9,500 compared to the same day last week.
To date however only 50 cases of the latest strain of the virus which was first detected in the UK have been reported in Spain, however it’s understood tests are being carried out on a large number of cases to determine if the new variant of the virus has spread wider than thought.
The news came as official statistics released yesterday stated that 360,000 jobs were lost last year as a result of the pandemic.
